Darwin Hotels and Accommodation

Darwin in the Northern Territory is one of the fastest growing capital cities in Australia and, due to its proximity to South East Asia, an important Australian gateway to countries such as Indonesia and East Timor. Darwin is home to people from more than 60 nationalities and 70 different ethnic backgrounds. Darwin draws in visitors due to its geography, history and laidback lifestyle. In the city, popular attractions include the Wharf Precinct, East Point Military Museum, Crocosaurus Cove and Deckchair Cinema where you can watch movies underneath the stars. The Mindil Beach Sunset Markets are worth checking out, while Crocodylus Park and Zoo is great for families.

The Top End’s dry season is from May to September when the weather is perfect with mild and sunny days perfect for exploring Darwin and its surrounds. The dry season is also the peak tourist season when Darwin receives the most visitors. The wet season when most rain falls is between December and March. Whilst less popular with tourists, there is still plenty to do and see with high intensity storms often providing spectacular lightning displays and also filling the rivers and waterfalls throughout the rregion for the adventurous.

Darwin is one of Australia's most modern capitals after needing to be rebuilt twice due to Japanese air raids during World War II and again after the devastating Cyclone Tracy in 1974. The southern part of Darwin including the CBD is separated from the newer northern suburbs by the Darwin Airport and RAAF Base.

Visit Darwin’s attractions and Aboriginal art galleries and learn about Australia’s indigenous culture. Around the region, consider visiting the Kakadu National Park or Litchfield National Park with a large population of wildlife. Great examples of Aboriginal rock art can be found at the spectacular Ubirr Rock. A little further away is the town of Katherine with a rich cultural and indigenous history definitely worth exploring.
